1. Overview
FirstNudge is provided by Eli Linden, an individual developer (“FirstNudge,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the FirstNudge iPhone application, visit the FirstNudge website, contact support, or purchase FirstNudge Pro.
FirstNudge is local-first, but it is not completely offline. Your task list and ordinary planning data are stored on your device under the current implementation. If you choose an assisted feature, limited text and technical information are sent to a secured backend and the OpenAI Responses API to perform the action you requested. Apple processes App Store purchases and may process speech recognition. Google Firebase provides backend security, anonymous authentication, and cloud functions.
FirstNudge does not use Firebase Analytics in the verified integration. FirstNudge does not use the verified integration to serve targeted advertising, sell personal information, or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
2. Information stored on your device
FirstNudge may store the following information locally on your iPhone:
- Task titles, notes, steps, and source text you save
- Deadlines, date-only due dates, planned work times, reminders, and time estimates
- Energy, context, importance, recurrence, blocker, and completion information
- Routines and routine steps
- Focus-session state and completion history
- App settings, appearance, quiet hours, notification preferences, and check-in preferences
- Calendar selections and availability information used for local planning
- Local widget data needed to display a next-action snapshot
- Draft captures and edited speech transcripts
This information remains on your device unless you choose a feature that sends specified information off the device, contact support and provide information, or Apple includes app data in a device backup that you control through Apple’s services.
3. Information processed for assisted features
FirstNudge offers two optional server-assisted actions:
- Capture organization: turning text from a brain dump into editable task drafts.
- Make Smaller: suggesting a concrete first step for a selected task.
When you request one of these actions, FirstNudge sends only the text needed to perform that request. The request may also include your locale, time zone, a request ID, and pseudonymous installation or authentication identifiers. The backend returns the organized drafts or smaller-step suggestion to the app.
FirstNudge does not send your entire task database merely to choose the next task. Under the current implementation, calendar event information is not included in assisted requests. Microphone audio is not sent to the FirstNudge Firebase/OpenAI backend.
The text you choose to submit could contain personal or sensitive information. Review it before starting an assisted request and avoid including information that is not needed for the requested task.
4. Technical, security, and usage-limit information
FirstNudge uses Firebase Core, anonymous Firebase Authentication, Firebase App Check, and Firebase Cloud Functions. These services may process:
- A pseudonymous anonymous-authentication identifier
- Firebase installation or similar app-instance identifiers
- Request IDs and timestamps
- App Check tokens and device or app attestation material
- IP address, user-agent, and limited network or device information processed by the service provider for request handling, security, abuse prevention, and reliability
- Assisted-action count, plan level, and monthly reset information
- Limited error information needed to diagnose a failed request, without intentionally placing task titles, notes, calendar contents, or microphone audio in ordinary logs
FirstNudge uses this information to authenticate requests without requiring conventional sign-up, prevent abuse, enforce the Free and Pro assisted-action limits, avoid charging the same failed retry twice, return or recover requested results, maintain security, and troubleshoot service failures.
Google’s Firebase documentation states that Cloud Functions temporarily processes IP addresses to execute functions; Firebase Authentication may process user agents and IP addresses for authentication and abuse prevention; and App Check processes attestation material and tokens to help confirm that requests come from a valid app or device. Google may process Firebase data in the United States and other locations where its infrastructure operates. Learn more in Google’s Firebase privacy and security information.
5. OpenAI processing
Secured Firebase Cloud Functions send the text needed for an assisted request to the OpenAI Responses API. The OpenAI API key is stored on the server and is not embedded in the iPhone app.
OpenAI’s current API documentation states that data sent through the API is not used to train or improve OpenAI models unless the API customer expressly opts in. It also states that standard Responses API requests may be retained for abuse monitoring and application state for up to approximately 30 days, depending on the API customer’s configuration, the request settings, safety requirements, and legal obligations. FirstNudge does not promise that assisted-request data has zero retention. Learn more in OpenAI’s API data controls documentation.
6. Voice capture and Apple Speech
Voice capture uses Apple technologies, including the Speech framework and AVFoundation. Speech recognition may occur on the device or through Apple’s services depending on your device, selected language, operating-system support, settings, and availability. FirstNudge requests microphone and speech-recognition permission when those features are used.
FirstNudge does not send microphone audio to its Firebase/OpenAI backend. If you choose assisted Capture organization after speech recognition, the editable transcript text—not the microphone recording—is sent for the requested organization.
You can deny or revoke microphone and Speech Recognition access in iPhone Settings and continue typing tasks manually.
7. Calendar information
With your permission, FirstNudge can use Apple EventKit to read selected calendar availability on your device. FirstNudge Pro can use that local availability to suggest possible work slots.
Under the current implementation:
- Calendar information stays on the device.
- Calendar titles, attendee information, and event contents are not sent with assisted requests.
- FirstNudge does not write events to an external calendar.
You can deny or revoke calendar access in iPhone Settings. Manual planning remains available without calendar access.
8. Notifications and widgets
FirstNudge uses Apple’s UserNotifications framework to schedule local reminders and optional check-ins you approve. Apple and iOS control whether and when a notification is presented. Notification content may appear on your lock screen depending on your device settings.
FirstNudge uses WidgetKit to display a local next-action snapshot. Widget updates and presentation are controlled in part by iOS. You can remove the widget or change notification permissions at any time.
9. Purchases and subscriptions
FirstNudge uses Apple StoreKit 2 for FirstNudge Pro subscriptions. Apple processes the purchase and payment information. FirstNudge may receive and process limited transaction and entitlement information, such as the subscription product, transaction identifier, status, expiration, renewal, refund, or revocation information, to provide Pro access, restore purchases, and enforce the correct assisted-action limit.
FirstNudge does not receive your complete payment-card information. Apple’s handling of payment and Apple Account information is governed by Apple’s policies.
10. Support communications
If you email support, we receive your email address and the content and attachments you choose to send. We use that information to respond, investigate the issue, prevent abuse, and maintain a record of the support request when reasonably necessary.
Do not include private task text, health information, financial information, passwords, or unrelated Apple Account information unless it is necessary for support. You may redact screenshots before sending them.
11. Website information
When you visit the FirstNudge website, the hosting provider may automatically process ordinary request information such as IP address, browser type, device type, requested page, date and time, and security logs needed to deliver and protect the website. The verified FirstNudge app integration does not include Firebase Analytics, and this policy does not authorize adding advertising or cross-site tracking without updating the policy and any required consent choices.
12. How information is used
FirstNudge uses information only as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide task capture, assisted organization, smaller-step suggestions, recommendations, planning, reminders, focus sessions, widgets, routines, and purchase restoration
- Authenticate and secure backend requests
- Enforce Free and Pro assisted-action limits
- Prevent duplicate counting for the same failed request
- Maintain, debug, and protect the app and website
- Respond to support, privacy, and legal requests
- Comply with applicable law and enforce applicable terms
13. How information is disclosed
FirstNudge may disclose information to the following service providers only for the purposes described in this policy:
- Google Firebase: backend configuration, anonymous authentication, App Check, Cloud Functions, request security, and service operation
- OpenAI: processing the text needed for an assisted Capture organization or Make Smaller request
- Apple: App Store distribution and payments, subscription management, speech recognition where Apple processing is used, local notifications, calendar permissions and access, device backups, and other operating-system services
- Professional advisers and authorities: when reasonably necessary to obtain legal, security, or technical advice, protect rights and safety, respond to valid legal process, or comply with law
- A successor or transaction participant: if the app or its assets are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to applicable notice and legal requirements
FirstNudge does not use the verified integration to sell personal information, deliver targeted ads, or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
14. Retention
- Local app data: remains on your device until you delete it, remove the app, replace it through an import, or otherwise direct the app to change it. Apple-managed backups may retain a copy under your Apple backup settings.
- Assisted-request data: is processed for the request and may be retained by FirstNudge’s service providers under their applicable service settings, security practices, legal requirements, and retention policies. OpenAI’s standard API documentation currently describes retention of Responses API data for up to approximately 30 days in common configurations.
- Anonymous authentication and quota data: may be retained while needed to secure the service, enforce limits, restore request state, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and comply with law. A verified deletion request can be used to seek deletion of data FirstNudge controls, subject to legal and technical limitations.
- Support communications: are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to answer the request, maintain support history, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
FirstNudge may retain information longer when required by law, needed for security or fraud prevention, or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. Information that has been irreversibly de-identified may be retained without being linked back to you.
15. Security
FirstNudge uses reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information. Requests to the backend are transmitted using encrypted network connections, Firebase App Check helps reject unauthorized app traffic, and the OpenAI API credential is kept on the server rather than embedded in the app.
No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. You are responsible for protecting access to your iPhone, Apple Account, device backups, and any screenshots or exports you create.
16. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Use manual task entry instead of assisted features
- Review and edit text before requesting assisted organization
- Deny or revoke microphone, Speech Recognition, calendar, and notification permissions in iPhone Settings
- Delete individual tasks inside the app
- Remove the app and its local data from the device, subject to Apple-managed backups
- Manage or cancel FirstNudge Pro through Apple
- Ask to access, correct, or delete information FirstNudge controls by emailing batchcompressvideos@gmail.com
Privacy rights vary by location. FirstNudge will respond to verified requests as required by applicable law. Because FirstNudge does not require your name or email to create a conventional account, we may need a pseudonymous installation, authentication, or request identifier to locate backend information. We may be unable to identify records that cannot reasonably be connected to the information you provide.
See the Privacy Choices and Data Deletion page for instructions.
17. Children’s privacy
FirstNudge is a general productivity application and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 in a manner that requires parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information, email batchcompressvideos@gmail.com so the issue can be reviewed.
18. International processing
Firebase, OpenAI, Apple, and their subprocessors may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have privacy laws different from the laws where you live. FirstNudge and its providers use the contractual and legal mechanisms applicable to their services.
19. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in FirstNudge, its service providers, or applicable law. The updated policy will be posted with a new effective date. If a change materially affects how previously collected information is used, additional notice or consent will be provided when required by law.
